Curracloe Beach
Wexford · Ireland
The short version, from the cited sources
Curracloe's dune-backed strand runs for kilometres along Ireland's southeast coast, a soft golden beach within the Raven nature reserve best known internationally as the stand-in for Omaha Beach in the opening of Saving Private Ryan, filmed here in 1997, and later for scenes in Brooklyn. Locally it is simply Wexford's summer beach, long enough that even peak crowds thin to solitude within a short walk.
