Keem Bay
Achill Island · Ireland
The short version, from the cited sources
Keem Bay hides at the end of Achill Island's cliff road in County Mayo, a horseshoe of pale sand beneath the slopes of Croaghaun, whose far side falls into the Atlantic in some of Europe's highest sea cliffs. A basking-shark fishery worked these waters until the 1970s; the sharks, now protected, still pass in early summer. The bay's fame grew again as a location in The Banshees of Inisherin, but its essential character is remoteness.
