La Jolla Cove
San Diego · United States
The short version, from the cited sources
La Jolla Cove is a pocket of sand beneath sandstone bluffs inside a San Diego marine protected area, prized for some of the clearest nearshore water on the southern California coast. Garibaldi, leopard sharks and sea lions concentrate here because take of marine life is prohibited, and the small beach doubles as a haul-out that swimmers are asked to give wide berth. Ocean swimmers use the cove as the start of the mile course to La Jolla Shores.
