Maya Bay
Ko Phi Phi Le · Thailand
The short version, from the cited sources
Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Le is the beach The Beach made famous: a near-enclosed ring of limestone cliffs around white sand and turquoise water, overwhelmed by mass tourism after the 2000 film. Thailand closed it entirely from 2018 to 2022 to let corals and blacktip reef sharks recover, and it reopened under strict rules: timed entry from a rear pier, capped numbers and no swimming in the bay itself. It is now as much a conservation case study as a destination.
