Pfeiffer Beach

The short version, from the cited sources

Pfeiffer Beach hides at the end of an unmarked, winding road off Highway 1 in Big Sur, known for two things: streaks of purple sand washed down from manganese-garnet deposits in the hills, and Keyhole Arch, the pierced sea stack through which winter sunsets align. It is a beach for walking and photography rather than swimming; the water is cold, the surf is heavy and the wind is often relentless.
