Plage d'Etretat
Etretat · France
The short version, from the cited sources
The pebble beach at Etretat lies between the white chalk arches of the Alabaster Coast, the Porte d'Aval with its needle and the Manneporte, cliffscapes painted repeatedly by Monet and Courbet. The beach is grey flint shingle rather than sand, and the tide governs walks to the arch bases. It is one of France's defining coastal images and among the most visited natural sites in Normandy.
