Plage de Pampelonne
Ramatuelle · France
The short version, from the cited sources
Pampelonne, the five-kilometre beach outside Saint-Tropez, is where the modern myth of the French Riviera beach club was written, from Brigitte Bardot's 1956 film And God Created Woman to today's rebuilt, regulated beach concessions. The commune of Ramatuelle has forced the clubs into demountable eco-designed structures behind a restored dune, an attempt to reconcile the glamour economy with a fragile shore. Off-season it returns to being a long, plain, beautiful Mediterranean beach.
