Las Canteras is the city beach of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and one of the best urban beaches in Europe: three kilometres of sand fronted by a natural volcanic reef, La Barra, that turns much of the beach into a calm natural pool at mid and low tide. A continuous promenade of cafes runs its full length, surfers work the unprotected southern end, and the mild Canary climate keeps it in use every month of the year.
