Playa de Maspalomas
San Bartolome de Tirajana · Spain
The short version, from the cited sources
Maspalomas pairs a broad Atlantic beach with a protected field of live dunes at Gran Canaria's southern point, a miniature Sahara pressed against the sea with a lighthouse from 1890 at its western end. The dunes, a nature reserve with marked crossings, migrate with the wind and shelter a brackish lagoon important to migrating birds. The beach itself runs unbroken into Playa del Ingles, the centre of the island's winter-sun tourism.
