Poipu Beach
Koloa · United States
The short version, from the cited sources
Poipu Beach on Kauai's sunny south shore pairs a natural wading pool sheltered by a sand tombolo with more open snorkelling water outside it. It is one of the most reliable places in the main Hawaiian islands to find endangered Hawaiian monk seals hauled out on the sand; volunteers rope off resting animals, and keeping distance is both etiquette and law. Green sea turtles graze the nearshore reef through the day.
