Praia da Rocha
Portimao · Portugal
The short version, from the cited sources
Praia da Rocha is the Algarve's grand old resort beach: an unusually wide plain of golden sand beneath ochre cliffs and weathered stacks at the mouth of Portimao's harbour. A wooden boardwalk crosses the deep sand, and the clifftop esplanade above dates to the coast's earliest tourism in the late nineteenth century. Its scale keeps it workable even at the height of the Algarve summer.
