Europe · Illustrated record
Rhossili Bay
Swansea · United Kingdom
The short version, from the cited sources
Rhossili Bay stretches five kilometres beneath the downland ridge at the tip of Wales' Gower Peninsula, the first place in Britain designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The wreck ribs of the Helvetia surface from the sand at low tide, and the tidal island of Worm's Head closes the southern view, crossable on foot for a window either side of low water. It repeatedly tops British and European beach polls despite having no development on the sand at all.
