Santa Monica State Beach
Santa Monica · United States
The short version, from the cited sources
Santa Monica's beach is the postcard of Southern California: an exceptionally wide, flat run of sand meeting the Pacific beneath the amusement pier whose Ferris wheel closes historic Route 66. The Marvin Braude bike path runs the full length of the sand, connecting toward Venice, and the beach's breadth is partly the product of twentieth-century engineering and nourishment. Lifeguard towers spaced along the strand are the originals of the genre.
