South Beach
Miami Beach · United States
The short version, from the cited sources
South Beach is the Atlantic front of Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District, where pastel 1930s hotels, colored lifeguard towers and Ocean Drive's neon face a wide, engineered strand of imported sand. It is as much a cultural district as a beach: fashion shoots, nightlife and people-watching share the shore with warm, swimmable Atlantic water. The lifeguard stands themselves, rebuilt as individual works of design, have become the beach's icon.
