Venice Beach
Los Angeles · United States
The short version, from the cited sources
Venice Beach is Los Angeles' great public stage: a wide Pacific beach whose boardwalk carries street performers, muscle-beach weightlifters, skaters in the sunken skate park, vendors and murals in a continuous open-air spectacle. The sand and surf are almost secondary to the promenade culture, though the breakwater and jetty zones hold consistent beginner surf. It adjoins Santa Monica to the north and the canals inland recall the neighborhood's 1905 origins as a themed seaside resort.
